I got this late last year and barely used for a month. While it was a huge ordeal getting it hooked up up we did manage to get it running. Cooling was mediocre but it was better than having to return the entire unit and get a replacement up to our 2nd floor bedroom (it's huge and heavy) Noise was also an issue while it was cooling, good thing we did not have to turn it on at night.
We took it out of storage recently and went through the complicated setup. Turned it on with it's usual loud droning sound, but oddly it refused to blow an cold air. We messed with the temperature and let it run for 2 days straight on various settings but just would not generate any cooling. After 2 days, it also started leaking badly from the side seam. I called the manufacturer and was basically told that I would have to spend $90 to have it shipped to have it looked at. Kind of ridiculous.
So long story short is we're stuck with a expensive and useless piece of junk at the moment. Seems like the setup and the cooling issue are common for this model. Should have been more careful and looked beyond the price. Definitely not worth it in the long run.

I bought this for my garage. I do animal rescue and wanted to buy a unit for my garage.
This air conditioner has been a dangerous nightmare for me. The exhaust tube disconnects not only from the unit easily...but also from the window too.....which means that one minute everything is fine, and the next minute I come home to animals nearly dying of heat exhaustion because the exhaust tube disconnected itself from the unit. If I had not gotten home in time, I would have killed several animals. I have no idea why a company like Koldfront would make a fantastic air conditioner with sloppy, poorly made exhaust tubing. What a waste of time and money. Going to buy a wall unit today and stop the headache and worry....

I live in the desert area where temps are constantly 96+ and our apartment has tall sliding windows and the window kit fit perfectly. It extended enough where I did not have to become an engineer. Our apartment has a horrible AC unit in the wall for the living room so we put this in the bedroom.
It is right next to the bed so I am constantly moving it and have no issue of it falling out. I even forgot to put in a piece that kept the window unit at a certain length and it still has not fallen out. If it is then the window may not be even or they did it wrong. Love that is comes with insulation.
Love the swivel function as it helps with circulation. This makes our room freezing where we have to turn it off at night and it makes the rest of the apartment comfortable. The apartment is 800sq ft.
Where we have it placed makes it seem really big and in the way. (Thats why im always moving it) You have to keep it so far from the window so it will take up more space so be aware of that because of the venting the hot air out of the room.
The remote works well and you can be at a pretty good distance and it still work.
I did a lot of research and this was the best option for the amount of square ft it covers. The size and the dehumidifier capacity was average. And it not being over $400. Would recommend to anyone that has about 800 sq ft and no central air.

I've had this unit for about a year now and it's worked well. I use it to cool my living room in south Texas. We live in an old trailer with poor insulation. The external temperatures can get up to 115-120F at the hosttest times of the year.
I'll start with the Pros.
This unit cools more than 2/3 of my house by itself. During the peek of summer, it will only cool my living room. I would say that 500sqft is accurate. 300sqft in 100F temps. We had a power surge earlier in the year and it was the only AC unit to survive. The others fried their PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards). The filters can be rinsed with water to clean, which is nice not needing to replace them all the time. The vents have a nice swing function that can be turned off, or on. The vents can also be adjusted by taping the "swing" button. I don't use the remote because of how convenient the controls are, but it's nice to have. I'd almost say the controls are too convenient, my cats can even use them. I've found the unit turned off before because the cat turned it off. Pipe fixture on the back of the unit for permanent placement and drainage. The unit doesn't really need to be drained, at least, I rarely do. I'll only drain it when performing repair, or moving the unit.
Now for the cons.
I'll NEED to clean the filter every 3 months or so. I know, I know, you're supposed to clean your filter monthly, but I find it a low priority. Just something to consider. I only have grief with 2 aspects of this unit. The first is the obvious vent hose falling off. For the most part I don't have the issue of the hose falling out of the window, but I have had it do so when moving the unit with the hose still attached. I have found that the hose attachment to the unit is not very secure, and I would probably have more trouble with it with if the unit was not as close to the window as it is (around 2ft). Overall, it's not an issue unless the cat jumps on it, only happened once, or if I move the unit. In the event of moving the unit, I'll need to hold the hose fitting in place to move the unit. The second grief I have with the unit is the blower fan. I'm not sure why, but the unit I have does not like back pressure, or much airflow resistance. The fan shaft is well lubricated, and I found no play in the motor output shaft, but once enough air resistance is present, the fan speed changes back and forth, almost like a bearing going out. While I had the unit apart, I noticed the insulation on the top of the evaporator was wicking the condensation all the way up to a tray where the condensation had pooled and had begun to drip into the fan chamber. I don't know if this was the cause of my fan noise, but since I had it apart, I figured I would solve that problem as well. I just removed the insulation that was directly interfaced with the evaporator, leaving the evaporator fins to rest against the plastic housing instead.
All in all, it's a great unit that has run for us almost continuously this whole year 24/7. As long as you keep it clean, you shouldn't really have any issues. There are better window units out there, but this isn't bad for a portable unit.
Hope this helps.

It works fine. The only problem, as with many of these portable AC units, is that the hose attachments are really really really hard to put together. The instructions say turn counter clockwise till it stops, but the stop never happens and it's never secure...se we end up having to use duct tape. The other side of the hose says to align the tabs an insert, that doesn't fit well either. If one of these companies can master something as easy as making these ventilation hoses fit, that would be a reason for a big "hallelujah". With technology as advanced as it is these days, one would think this wouldn't and shouldn't be such a hard thing to create.
